Amanda over at Topped off with a Red Hat (one of my favorite style blogs) interviewed me for a spotlight on her blog.

A big big thanks Amanda!

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween everyone!  This is one of my favorite holidays, and I had a blast going out last night with great friends.  I have always been way more impressed with homemade costumes that are funny rather than the store bought cookie-cutter costumes.  I can't count how many "Sassy Sailors" I saw last night.  So in the spirit of homemade costumes, I took some inspiration from one of my favorite shows: Mad Men!
 Dress: thrifted, hemmed
Shoes: Jessica Simpson
Bracelets: I have no clue, some cheap store

I wanted a costume I didn't have to spend any money on this year.  Last year I wore the same costume I wore the previous year (I know, lame!) just to avoid spending a lot of money on a costume, but this year I went in my closet to find inspiration.  I've worn this dress recently here, so it isn't strictly costumey, but I thought it was perfect for this!  I'm loving the beehive, I think it is time for that hairstyle to make a comeback!

So I am interested in knowing, what is your costume for Halloween??

Come on a Safari With Me

This outfit makes me feel like I am on some sort of safari... the kind where there are no animals and I am in the middle of the city.  The shots were taken at the park where The Turk proposed, so they are some of my favorites.
Dress: Michael Kors
Belt: Banana Republic
Boots: American Eagle
Necklace: H&M
Sunglasses: The Turk's

I've had these boots for years and I wear them all over the place so they are slowly dying.  I wish I would have known how much I would love them so I could have bought a few extra pairs.  The Turk laughs at me when I buy a top or jacket in several different colors, but I know I can't be the only one with this habit.
Do you have any items that are faded/ripped/stained/broken that you wish you would have stockpiled when you had the chance?

Happy Halloween (Part 1: The Office)

Today is the last day of the BBCA challenge.  I'm not sad to see it go, I'm ready for different colors! Picking a costume for work was difficult, because I wanted to use only items I already had in my closet and I had to wear pink for the BBCA!  I don't have many items that can be made into a costume featuring pink, so I went pretty mild for work.
 Top: Old Navy
Cami: Eddie Bauer
Jeans: Banana Republic
Boots: Old from Target

So what am I? Oh you know, just your normal everyday cowgirl waiting for the bus.  I am excited for my costume for the actual Halloween, but this work one is pretty tame.  Working with clients who are severely mentally ill also limits what you can wear.  No masks, no scary costumes, nothing that could send someone into a psychotic state.  Hence, enter the cowgirl!
Do you have different costumes for work and the actual day?

I Can't Tell Seasons

Obviously I cannot tell that it is Autumn because this outfit is fit for Easter dinner or something. I have never really paid attention to "fall colors" or "spring colors" or anything like that, but I'm pretty sure this is Spring-y.  I had so much trouble today because I don't have a lot of pink, and that's a problem when you're participating in a challenge to wear pink every day for breast cancer awareness!.  The Turk watched me put on every pink thing I had trying to find something to wear today.  I settled on this, but really only because my time was running out.
Dress: F21
Cardigan: Chico's
Belt: thrifted
Shoes: Jessica Simpson
Pin: thrifted

Tomorrow will be a challenge because I want to dress up in a costume for work, but I need to wear pink!  I have a few ideas but... any help??

Golden Girl

It's my second day of the BBCA challenge, and I dug out some more pink!  I also brought out my favorite gold shoes! I've said it before and I'll say it again: I friggin' love Jessica Simpson shoes.  They are so comfy, fit really well, and come in the cutest styles without breaking the bank.  I love these because they are both silver and gold at the same time so when I wear them with silver they look more silver and when I wear them with gold, well you get the idea.  The shimmery metallic is echoed through my skirt, top, and trench.  I have been enjoying wearing more pink, it isn't usually a color I wear.

Top: Old Navy
Skirt: Merona
Shoes: Jessica Simpson
Trench: Nine West
Necklace: H&M

For some reason today I didn't like any of the photos where I was looking at the camera.  I must have been distracted by my shiny shoes...

Breast Cancer A-wear-ness Challenge Day 1

So I'm a little late discovering this challenge... A Working Mom's Closet proposed a challenge for style bloggers to wear some pink every day in October.  I will do so for the rest of the month.  In planning my outfits I also realized how little pink I had!
Dress: Xhiliration
Blazer: H&M
Tights: HUE from Macy's
Shoes: bebe
Bracelet: cancer fundraiser

Always a Bridesmaid...

I've been a bridesmaid in 5 weddings.  At 24 I'm not sure it that is a lot or a little. I am lucky that I haven't had to wear any stereotypical hideous bridesmaid dresses.  I still have all of my bridesmaid dress though I will never wear them again.  Luckily my friends and sisters weren't silly enough to pull that "and you can wear it again!" line on me because these are definitely one hit wonders.

I'm embarrassed to post this because I look like a hunchback!  My sister's wedding in May 2007
Brother's wedding in August 2007 (Actually this one go to see the light of day again, but it wasn't me who wore it.  My mom wore it to some ball she went to)

Friend's wedding December 2008
Friend's wedding May 2009

Tell me, what is the worst bridesmaid dress you have ever worn?

Transitioning Summer Wardrobe to Fall

I hate the idea of losing half of my closet twice a year when the seasons change.  Why can't I wear my favorite white shoes in the winter?  My favorite Rebecca Taylor dress should not only get the privilege of coming out when the thermometer reaches 80 degrees.  So I took some advice from Meagan at spunky chateau on how to extend my spring and summer clothes through the next several months.

Dress: Xhiliration
Jacket: Talbots
Tights: Old Navy
Shoes: Jessica Simpson
Belt: thrifted
Necklace: H&M

I followed rules 1 and 2 here by pairing my summer dress with tights and layering with a light jacket.
What are some other tips for extending your wardrobe?

Lemon Lime

I have always loved the color combination of green and yellow.  It always seems so fresh and lively (hey, it works for 7UP).  It was the perfect choice for a foggy day here in Seattle.  My dad got this skirt for me when we were at a conference together in Sacramento last year (thanks Dad!). I've had this shirt forever, but I haven't worn it since college because I couldn't figure a way to wear it that didn't look too casual.
Top: Indigo
Skirt: The Limited
Cardigan: LOFT
Shoes: Xhiliration
Belt: thrifted

Wear Purple for 10/20

I've been wearing a lot of purple lately (here and here), but I had to bring it back today.  I decided go big or go home so I wore all purple.  Even if the colors aren't the same shade, dedicating an entire outfit to one color can work.  This outfit works because the skirt has several different shades of purple to tie the other two together.

Skirt: F21
Skirt: Banana Republic
Cardigan: The Gap
Shoes: Mossimo
Bracelets: Really old, I forget!

For the record, I know I've worn my hair this way for the past three days.  I know I need to stop, but it has been so easy doing my hair in 15 seconds!  I'm officially a high-messy-bun-aholic.
Speaking of 10/20, it is In Kinsey's Closet 1 monthaversary!

The Rainbow Connection

As I've said before, I'm a big fan of mixing colors.  The hot pink skirt, the french blue cardigan, and the purple scarf go together (IMHO) when they're pulled together by the patterned top.  I really love today's outfit.  I've been realizing that I have a lot of neutrals and monochromatic color schemes in recent posts.
Cardigan: H&M
Skirt: LOFT
Top: NY&Co.
Scarf: bazaar in Turkey
Shoes: Jessica Simpson
A nice shot of me cracking up while "using" the phone :0)

I originally had this scarf tied in a different style, but in true The Turk fashion, he said "What's with the purple thingy?"  I tied it differently and all was well.  Does anyone else change how/what they wear because their partner makes a snarky comment?
