Shoe Storage Solution

Shoes: Target, Nike, Jessica Simpson
So, as you may have noticed, I have a few pairs of shoes.  I got into the bad habit of tossing my shoe boxes in high school, so I have had some serious shoe storage issues over the years.  I can never find a shoe rack that is big enough for all of my shoes, or one specifically designed for high heels (recommendations gladly accepted!!).  When I moved, I shipped all of my shoes to Indiana.  I literally tossed every shoe into a big box and mailed it.  $150 bucks later, they arrived in Indiana with no place to go.  These storage boxes have been a life saver.  I got them at a home improvement store for $8 for 12.  At less than a dollar a piece, they are ideal for box-tossers like myself.  I love that they are stackable, and can fit even my highest heels and booties.  They are clear so I can easily see which shoe is inside.  My mom turned me on to these boxes, but she goes the extra mile and tapes pictures of the shoes on the outside for easy retrieval.  Now all I need is a place to store all of these boxes and I'll be set!

This is actually what happens to my old shoe boxes...

I found boxes like these for about 60 cents a pop on craigslist a while back when I realized that having a pile of shoes in the corner of the room was doing me no good. Not to mention the dust and damage that piles of shoes create. Id love to have a picture of each shoe in the box, but instead I just wrote little handwritten labels and taped them to each box so I could know what was inside.
I've got about a hundred pairs of shoes, so obviously the boxes weren't going to fit nicely in the closet. Instead, I lined one wall in my bedroom with the boxes and hung shelves just above them to store my jewelry and scarves and such. I must say, it's quite visually pleasing. like having a shoe store of just your size shoes at your fingertips.
I also keep some shoes that don't get much wear out of boxes and use them to decorate around my house. A fun and easy way to change the look of a room while displaying something I love and adore. Win win, yes?

I use these same clear boxes but when I'm undecided on a shoe they're the worst system ever (opening and closing, lifting the top ones to get to the bottom and then re-stacking..)
I would LOVE a shelf system...without any boxes at all. That would be ideal!

I have always wanted to do boxes like this. I just worry that I am so messy that I will end up with shoes and empty boxes everywhere. Seeing how it doesn't seem that shoes will stop arriving in my closet anytime soon and I am too lazy to dust my shoes I might have to do this. Was the home improvement store orange or blue?

Thanks for the idea! My shoes are taking over the floor of my room. My main problem is that I don't have room for all of them in boxes either. I just need a separate shoe room really...

I bought a shoe storage thing at the Container Store that was supposed to be perfect but is a too flimsy--but the concept is PERFECT, it just needs to be tweaked. Its a low, large box with separators in it for each pair of shoes, and you can slide it under your bed. I bought two, and each one holds a dozen pairs of shoes. The idea is perfect for what I need, but its made out of flexible plastic, and I need it to be more sturdy/hard...but it keeps our shoes out of the way!

I searched high and low for a shoe rack that would work for me and finally found this one from abc distributing http://www.abcdistributing.com/home/catalog/cat_item_pg.asp?G=808&P=235&Rec=1&Ntt=shoe+rack&N=35&Nao=0&R=482284-7ESO---2

It even gives you the option to hold boots!

An enviable shoe collection! I only own about 5 pairs, but my boyfriend is addicted to Foot Locker.

This is genius! I have a very tiny apartment and small budget for actual useful items. I just turned two cardboard boxes on their sides and made them into shelves in my closet. Ghetto? yes but it works!

Yeah the idea of pictures on shoe boxes was one I wanted to use but, I don't keep all my boxes. This look seriously organized though, good job!
