Indigo Girl

Here I am, back in front of my most favorite wall in all of Indianapolis.  Yup, I've got a favorite wall.  Ponder that loyal readers... It's the perfect backdrop for this bold colorblocked outfit.  Purple and hot pink is such a girly combination, and I'm allll about the girly.  I love feminine elements, and this color combination is so Malibu Barbie.  Blogger Barbie perhaps?  Did Barbie have a redheaded sidekick I've forgotten about in the 15 years since I've outgrown her?
Top: Macy's
Skirt: LOFT
Shoes: Steven Madden
Bag: Coach
Cuff: Banana Republic

This top is one of the few items I own that I bought because I saw it on someone else.  That person was my mamacita!  She bought this top and I got super jealous because I loved the color and detailed neckline.  I beelined to the nearest Macy's and found it waiting for me (on the sale rack no less!).  Keep inspiring me Mama!

Do you ever see an item on someone and head straight to the store to make it your own?

Going Steady

I don't know what your high school experience was like, but mine was pretty good.  I stayed busy with musical rehearsals, track practice, desperately trying to make sense of calculus, and spending time with my two best friends.  I didn't ever have a serious boyfriend in high school, so I missed out on the wear-your-guy's-letter-jacket-to-the-big-game thing.  I actually can't remember anyone from my high school doing this (or my high school having a big game because we were pretty lame-o in the sports department), but I've seen movies... So when my wonderful boyfriend let me borrow his college ring to wear around my neck, he asked me if it meant we were going steady.  The answer? Totes.
Dress: thrifted
Shoes: xhiliration
Bag: Coach
Necklace: My guy's class ring
Shades: Ann Taylor

Today's outfit is super simple.  Sometimes I feel like I need to jazz up my outfits to make them more blogworthy, but in the interest of keeping it real, this is the outfit I had on.  A simple dress, my favorite sandals, and my best guy's ring close to my heart.

Do you ever feel pressure to jazz up your outfits for the sake of blogging?

I Wanna Go

Yesterday I had such a fun time seeing Britney Spears in concert!  I remember listening to her in my bathroom before school when I was 13, so seeing her in Indianapolis was great.  There were girls (and the occasional guy) dressed up as all different eras of Britney.  My person fave is Toxic Britney...
Dress: Mossimo
Cardigan: Banana Republic
Shoes: Aldo
Belt: I heart Ronson
Bag: Coach

So this is what I wore to the Britney concert (see how else I've worn this dress here and here).  I did not feel the need to dress up like her, nor did I want to dress like a prostitute like many of the other concert goers did.  Girls couldn't even fist pump with DJ Pauly D without their dresses pulling up to show their bare bums.  I'll leave the half nakedness to Ms. Spears athankya.

Do you dress up for concerts?

Fit to be Tied

This is one of my all-time favorite tops and one of my all-time favorite skirts.  I don't know why I never paired them together until today, but the mix of navy, polka-dots, and the interesting neck details of the top created a perfect look for dinner and drinks with friends.  I recognize that fall is quickly coming, and my days featuring bare legs are numbered.  I better enjoy the last few weeks of summer before my tights start making an appearance!
Top: Charlotte Russe
Skirt: Banana Republic
Shoes: xhiliration
Bag: Limited

Are you looking forward to fall weather, or are you praying for more summer?

I Need Your Opinion!

Hey everyone!  My buddy Shawn contacted me to let me know he was in a hair rut.  He's been rocking a fauxhawk for quite some time, and is ready for a change.  He is relying on all of my fashionable readers (aka you) to help him decide on his next look.  He has promised to stick to the look all of you choose for him!
Shawn and his (soon to be gone) fauxhawk
So, it is up to all of you!  Which look do you choose for Shawn?

Underground Railroad

There was a period during my blogging career when I was unemployed.  I quit my job in Seattle to move back to my homestate of Indiana without having any work prospects lined up.  For two months I had fun spending time with all of my friends, going out on weeknights, and blogging.  I got some of the best posts during this time because I had nothing to do but focus on IKC.  My photog buddy Jimmy and I would scout great locations for photos, and this set of tracks produced one of my favorite photos ever from last January:

So when I went back to my hometown yesterday, we had to hit it up for a shoot.  It's great to see how the scene changes with the turning of the seasons.  It's funny because I remember exactly what was going on in my life when each of the photos for IKC was taken.  This blog has not only been a creative outlet for me, but a photographic journal of a great transitional time in my life.  Funny, because all I thought I was doing when I started IKC was taking pictures of my clothes...
Dress: Macy's (gifted from mi mamacita)
Cardigan: Banana Republic
Shoes: xhiliration
Belt: Banana Republic
Bag: Coach
Shades: gifted from my boyfriend

Do you ever look back at old photos and remember exactly what was going on during that period in your life?

Semi-Funky Hip Hop Casz

When I was growing up, one of my favorite shows was Sister, Sister.  I loved their clothes and I couldn't wait to be in high school so I could be as fashionable as Tia and Tamera.  I mean, how could you not want to look like these chicas?
One of my best buddies Jimmy and I often recite one of our favorite lines from this show when discussing dress codes for upcoming events.  I remember a scene where Tia, Tamera, and their equally fashionable girlfriends were talking about what to wear to a party later that night, and one of the girls says "semi-funky hip hop casz".  What does that even mean?  I don't know, but I wanted to be it.  I am embarrassed to admit how long I have spent over the years trying to find a clip of this scene on youtube (if you can find it for me, I will seriously send you a gift card to your favorite store).  I mean, literally hours spent over the past few years trying every combination possible to find this scene.
I digress
So here is my attempt at keeping it casual.  Boyfriend jeans, a soft tee, and a bright cardigan made for the perfect casual outfit.  It's starting to cool down here in Indiana, so I'm looking forward to breaking out my favorite jeans this fall.
Tee: Urban Outfitters
Jeans: Gap
Cardigan: Macy's
Shoes: xhiliration
Bag: Coach
Necklace: my mother's vintage

Do you remember this tee?  I bought it for myself as a little birthday gift earlier this year on a trip to Vancouver, BC.  It is the softest tee I own, and therefore, the only one I'll ever wear in public.  Hope Tia and Tamera aren't disappointed in my hip hop funky casz look...

Do you follow In Kinsey's Closet on twitter?

UPDATE!  My fabulous reader K found the clip!  It's below in the comments!  K, send me your info and favorite store and a gift card will be on it's way to you!  THANK YOU!
