According to the news, Indiana is about to be hit with a big snow/ice storm.  Well, as far as I can see, the skies are clear and the temperature is very mild (for January... in Indiana...), so I thought I'd take advantage of the "nice" weather.

I am back to work, and it feels great.  It was pretty scary for me to leave a great job in Washington with no prospects, but I am so glad I did.  Now, I am back amongst the workforce and can bring out my favorite work attire.  I sometimes find it difficult to toe the line between professional and fashionable.  I have a job that lends a little more freedom in what I can wear.  Nothing too distracting or revealing, but other than that, I get to choose how I dress.  Some therapists wear suits, others wear dress pants, and some wear jeans and sneakers.  I love that freedom, and it lets me change my level of dressiness based on how I am feeling on any given day.

Midnight Train

Since I've been back, I have had a great time re-discovering this little city of mine.  Since starting this blog, I see landscapes completely differently.  Now, when I see a great mural or bright colored wall I think to myself "I'd love to do a shoot here for IKC!" My friend and I were out and found this little gem of a location.  I am instantly reminded of Joann from Sidewalk Chic who features a set of train tracks pretty regularly on her blog.

It was pretty windy today, so 80% of my pictures were unusable due to some cray cray hair.  I always forget the wind factor when I'm doing outdoor shoots.  Some people are blessed to look like they carry around their own special wind effects team and get that great wind-blown look.  Unfortunately, I am not one of these people and I look like I stuck my finger in an electrical socket.  A little clever cropping and finito!  No one is the wiser...except all of you because I outed myself yet again.

Shoe Storage Solution

So, as you may have noticed, I have a few pairs of shoes.  I got into the bad habit of tossing my shoe boxes in high school, so I have had some serious shoe storage issues over the years.  I can never find a shoe rack that is big enough for all of my shoes, or one specifically designed for high heels (recommendations gladly accepted!!).  When I moved, I shipped all of my shoes to Indiana.  I literally tossed every shoe into a big box and mailed it.  $150 bucks later, they arrived in Indiana with no place to go.  These storage boxes have been a life saver.  I got them at a home improvement store for $8 for 12.  At less than a dollar a piece, they are ideal for box-tossers like myself.  I love that they are stackable, and can fit even my highest heels and booties.  They are clear so I can easily see which shoe is inside.  My mom turned me on to these boxes, but she goes the extra mile and tapes pictures of the shoes on the outside for easy retrieval.  Now all I need is a place to store all of these boxes and I'll be set!

The Edges Have Blurred

...or in this case, just my pictures.  Today was a tripod and remote day, and it seem pretty evident from the blurriness of these photographs.  Sorry folks!  Today is a pretty casual day for me, just lunch with my favorite parents (aka, mine) and then down to Indianapolis for some shopping and dinner.  It is warming up (30 degrees, WOO!) so I broke out on of my favorite skirts.  Banana Republic, I love you.  You always make the best skirts, and I always waste too much money on them.  Sales rack, I love you too.

In Holly's Closet

I'm not the only one who has a thing for Coach.  Case in point: This is my dog Holly, and she is wearing a Coach collar!  My mom found this in a Coach store and, since she loves Holly a bit more than any of her children, she bought it for her immediately.  I got her this matching sweater, so now she's the most fashionable dog on the block (dare I say, the whole state?)

Girls' Night Out

Tonight I am meeting up with a few girlfriends for dinner and drinks.  I always love catching up with friends, and these girls are the best.  One of the best parts about being home is being able to spend more time with people I always have fun with. 

Speaking of girlfriends, my good friend Jessica picked out this outfit.  We were shopping in Vancouver over my birthday weekend when I spotted this dress.  Jessica thought this blazer would look great with the dress and paired with some electric blue pumps.  It is far too chilly for the blue pumps, but I'll make sure to bring this outfit out again once it warms up.

Anyone recognize this look?  Those of you who are fans of Sydney over at The Daybook might be having some outfit deja vu! Sydney rocked this beautiful outfit the other day, and when I saw it I knew I could re-create it with items in my own closet.  I've worn a similar outfit in the past, but which black tights.  I love getting inspired by fellow bloggers, especially the always cute Sydney.

There's Snow Place Like Home

It's snowing here in Indiana.  I love a good snow day, and my hometown has plenty of them this time of year.  Today, my good friend Jimmy took my photos for me.  It was pretty cold, so it was nice to not have to use the tripod and remote today.

Green with Envy

Why hello there!  Long time, no see.  I knew I had been neglecting my blog, but I didn't realize anyone else knew until I got the following text from my good friend Jessica: what's up with ur blog yo?!  Point taken.  I thought that my move would give me more time to work on IKC.  Instead, it's given me more time to sleep in, spend fun nights with my best friends, go on long country runs, and play with my pets in the snow.  I'm back to working on IKC every day, and it's good to be back!

Back Home Again in Indiana...

...and it seems that I can see the gleaming candlelight still shining bright through the sycamores for me.

I don't expect anyone who isn't a native to Ole' Indiana to know that song (and I'd bet most Hoosiers today couldn't finish it).  It feels so good to be home and to sleep in my own bed after nearly a week of hotel living.  I knew I was neglecting IKC, but I had a feeling you wouldn't want to see a variation of the skinny jeans + top + knit sweater every day so I focused my energy on getting home and consuming copious amounts of diet soda to keep me awake on the long drives.

When I saw this top at ON, I had to snatch it up right away.  I'm a lover of all thing polka-dots, so this was an obvious choice.  Paired with this navy skirt, it is such a cute combination.  I can't wait to wear this in the warm spring without tights and a cardigan with a cute pair of high heeled sandals. 

As a lover of all things clothes, winter is a good season because of all the layering options.  I don't mind the cold (obviously, I moved back to Indiana from Seattle where half an inch of snow closes the city) so I am happy to keep bundling up.  Fall is definitely my favorite season to dress in.  The great color options and the tights and cute jackets are so fun to play with.
