Friend Friday: Hair Care
I haven't done a Friend Friday post in a while, but since I'm too busy preparing for my Texas vacation this week to do outfit posts, I thought it was the perfect time. Katy from Modly Chic created Friend Friday as a way for bloggers to connect and discuss the "behind the lens" aspect of their lives. This week... it's all about the hair.
1. How often do you get your hair cut?
I usually go into the salon every 6-8 weeks. My hair is very fine, so if I go much longer than 6 weeks it looks really gross at the ends. My mom calls it "The Shaggy Dog" and was never shy about telling me when I needed a little snip-snip. Since I've been coloring my hair, my roots usually determine when I go in for a cut. As soon as I can't stand my roots anymore, I'm off to the salon for a cut and color.
2. Do you go to the same stylist each time, try someone new, go to the cheap hair cutting chains or live it up in a salon?
It really depends! I try to be loyal to one stylist because I love the chit chat that comes with someone I'm familiar with. I like being able to say "give me the usual" and have them know exactly what I mean. That being said, I haven't gone to the same person twice since moving back to Indiana in January (and I've been to the salon a good five times since then). My problem is that I can't plan when I'll need a color touch up, so I wait until the last minute and call my salon and say "I need an appointment with whoever is available!" Last time I went, I loved the cut and color that my stylist gave me, so I just bit the bullet and scheduled 6 weeks out with her.
For now, I'm going to a pricier salon, but when I was living in Seattle (aka being a broke grad student) I went to one of the cheap places. I have to say that of all the places I ever went for cut and color, my stylist Jamie at Master Cuts (in Queene Anne for any of you Seattle people) was THE BEST. It was cheap, she was so fun to talk to, and she always got my cut and color right. I went to her the day after a break up and said "Make me a redhead!" and I haven't gone back since. I kinda miss her...

If I had a dollar for everytime someone asked me if red was my natural color, I'd never have to pay for a salon visit out of pocket ever again. I swear I get asked this at least once a day. Is it just me or is that insanely rude?? It's like asking a woman if her breasts are real (mine are, in case you were wondering, which I'm sure you weren't). Take a hint: if you think a woman has pretty hair, just compliment her without the "is that your natural color" talk. So yes, I color my hair about every 6-8 weeks. I've been every color found in nature: brunette, black, blonde, and red. So far, I've been loving the red and will stick with it for awhile (much to the dissatisfaction of my sister who tells me to go back to blonde all the time).
My natural color is a pretty brunette color. I like it a lot, but I always like change. Whenever I am one color, I'll look at old photos and wish I was a different color. I have hair envy, but only for past versions of myself!
4. The one thing you always do to keep your hair looking great is:
Avoid washing it every day. If I washed my hair every day, it would look dull, limp, and super dry. I wash it every other day, and somedays I try and stretch it out three days. I've mastered the art of the updo so that my hair doesn't look greasy on day three, but perfectly "bedheaded chic" (dry shampoo ladies, look into it...) I also always use a heat protector and leave in oil since I heat style my hair almost every day.
5. What hair trend do you love and wish you could rock?
*Sigh* I've always wanted long hair. Not long-ish hair, but really long hair. My hair is so fine that it just doesn't look good long. I had long hair when I was a little girl, but chopped it off when I was younger because it tangled too much.
Now, there are some styles I wish I hadn't rocked, such as the two-year perm, the Beatles haircut I had in fourth grade, and the Sun-In orangey color I got the summer before senior year of high school...

Miami Vice
The weather here in Indiana is overcast and cool for May. So since there isn't any warm sunshine here, I need to bring a bit of Miami to Indianapolis. Enter: the Miami Vice blazer. This blazer also moonlights as The Lab Coat Jacket. Usually when I wear this blazer I get mistaken for a doctor that just got off work. I don't mind people confusing me with a doctor, so I usually just play along with it...

I got the idea for this outfit after seeing Kristen Wiig's character in Bridesmaids this week. She wore a lot of short dresses with oversized blazers. I have been living in these Mossimo dresses lately (I have it in three different patterns and I'm contemplating going back for the rest), so it was a no-brainer to throw on this blazer.

Today is my best friend (foreva!)'s birthday. I remember the first time we met the week before college started. Long story short: I fell out of my dorm room loft. We've been going strong ever since. Redhead Blogger Swap Day #5: TGIF
It's been a frustrating 24 hours! Blogger went down and wiped out a lot of my content and most of the comments made in the past two days. That sucks! Your feedback is always important to me, and I hate to think I missed any of it. Oh well, vent sesh over: on to the clothes!
