Wishful Thinking

After seeing how bad the snow has been in other parts of the country this week, our temperatures just below freezing and clear skies have me very grateful.  It's downright springtime in Indiana compared to New England!  I decided to break out some pink and purple to get me in the mood for spring.  Is there anything more girly than pink and purple together

Also, is there anything more lazy than a messy topknot?  We all know the topknot is the lazy girl's BFF, and I am rocking it loud and proud today.  It makes a statement, that's for sure.  I want that statement to be I'm laid back and cool, but it is more I haven't washed my hair in three days.  Truth.

Ever since Cher Horowitz wore her spaghetti strap top over a shirt girls everywhere wanted to replicate it.  I used to rock that look back in middle school nearly every day. (I also used to clip only half my bangs up and let the other half hang down below my eyebrows so don't think I was a young fashionista- just a follower.)   I mean who didn't want to be the girl with the futuristic closet that chose outfits for her?  I know I did.  I still do!  But alas, I am stuck picking out my own clothes like a pauper.   I can still take inspiration from our gal Cher by wearing this cami over my turtleneck for an updated take on her gym class style.

Black and White and Red All Over

I remember the first joke I ever thought was really really funny.  I told the joke to my dad, and when he only cracked a little smile to humor me I knew I was pretty much the funniest person to ever walk the face of the earth.  The joke was What is black and white and red (read) all over? and the answer was a newspaper!

Aside from being the best joke 5 year old Kinsey knew black, white and red is a great color combination.  I have featured it tons of times on the blog, she here is a look back on some of my favorite styles featuring this classic combo.  Looks range from fall 2010 to just last week!

I was walking out of a parking garage yesterday when a very very pregnant woman stopped me and told me loved my outfit.  She rubbed her belly and said "I can't wait until I can wear normal people clothes again".  So here you have it, my normal people clothes outfit.

Remember 3rd grade art class?  When your teacher let you finger paint and make ceramic dinosaurs and made you feel like a superstar mini Picasso every time you completed an assignment?  I want to go back to those days.  I even remember my teacher telling me that my painting style was similar to van Gogh so.... she was just being nice I was pretty much a prodigy.

Aside from failing my calling to be a modern day Bob Ross, I picked up a few things.  The color wheel for example.  I often mentally refer to the color wheel when putting together outfits, and today's look was no exception.  I pulled the three primary colors together in one bold, yet approachable, combo.

Some items in my wardrobe have lasted throughout the years despite changing trends.  This houndstooth skirt from Ann Taylor has really stood the test of time.  I purchased it back in 2007 and it's still going strong.  It's made from wool and is fully lined so it is quite warm in the colder months.  Paired with classic charcoal and red, this look will also stand the test of time.

I am happy to invest in pieces I know I'll wear a long time.  Winter coats, great boots, nice dresses and well made skirts tend to be where I splurge.  Costume jewelry, tops, sundresses, sandals and anything super trendy (I'm thinking of my leopard print jumpsuit!) are always going to be affordable or even thrifted.  I just can't justify dropping a ton of cash on something that I won't be able to wear in 2016.

Yesterday I had the day off of work, so I got the pleasure of chauffeuring my husband around to various appointments all day.  In the early morning he had an eye exam and wasn't allowed to drive, so I was driving Miss Daisy.  Usually real chauffeurs dress up in professional outfits and nice hats, but this is my casual day off look.  No uniform required.

Actually, this is pretty close to my "day off uniform".  A flannel, jeans and boots topped with a coat and cap.  In the wintertime, it's about as cozy and comfy as you can get without leaving home in your pajamas... not that that has ever stopped anyone.  The number of people I see walking around town in their sweatpants or pajama bottoms gives me flashbacks to lazy high school days when it was cool to do that.  It was a conscious decision to be fashionable, not a "oh crap school starts in 4 minutes and I live 10 minutes away" kind decision. Memoriesssssss!

House Divided

What do you do when your beloved Colts play your husband's favorite team in the playoffs?  If you answered anything other than a NFL gear fashion face off you're totally wrong.  I love my Colts, but I can also be a good sport and rock some New England gear to appease my diehard hubby.  He got this shirt for me over a year ago when we visited his (awesome) family in Boston and took advantage of their season tickets.  I sure didn't style this shirt up with a skirt and boots when I was at Gillette, but I thought I'd have a little fun with it today!
