Fall Pattern Mixing | Buffalo Plaid + Leopard

It ain't fall if you're not wearing buffalo plaid.  This print was huge last year, and I see it everywhere again this year so I think it's safe to say it's here to stay.  Buttoning up a cozy flannel is the best way to start any fall day in my opinion.  I tend to wear this print more casually, but today I paired it with a peplum skirt, patent leather red heels and leopard accessories.  It's style blogger Pattern Mixing 101 to mix these prints (right behind stripes and florals), so take notes people!

On Repeat

I have to admit something: you have seen this look before.  Yup, that's right, I am repeating an outfit piece for piece.  Apparently when celebrities and royalty do it they get magazine articles written about them, but for us normal folks it's nothing new.  While I love finding new ways to style the various items in my closet, sometimes I just want to go back to a look I really liked.  No shame in the repeat game!

To be completely honest, I didn't have intentions of blogging this outfit.  I threw it on before my husband and I took a road trip to visit his brother in Milwaukee.  It seemed like the perfect fall outfit to me!  So when we had some time to kill while waiting for him to finish up with work we snapped some pictures with Miss Pearl.  It seems like every day there is an impromptu photo shoot with Miss Pearl as evidenced by my canine heavy instagram (follow along, kay?).

The Boot

Anyone remember this dress from a few weeks ago?  Well it's no secret that when I find something I love I snatch it up in every color!  This dress is no exception!  I purchased it in early 2011 and have worn it (and it's pink counterpart) pretty regularly ever since.  I love the romantic ruffles and flattering cut.   This time I paired the dress with some knee high boots (full disclosure: I am hiding a few gnarly bruises on my legs thanks to a rough excursion at the bark park this week!) and my go to brown backpack.  Also gotta rock that side-pony because that's the way 11 year old Kinsey likes it!

Guidelines

Black and blue is one of my favorite combinations.  When I was younger I thought it was "against the rules" so I didn't really begin mixing these shades until I was in college and didn't care about "the rules" anymore.  I guess there really are no more fashion rules.  It seems more like guidelines than anything.  Wear things that make you feel pretty.  Wear things that make your body look nice.  If you like it, wear it!

Cool for the Summer

One of my favorite challenges is figuring out how to wear my clothes nearly year round.  If I am being honest, my turtleneck sweaters and flat strappy sandals only live to see one season a year but this blue maxi is another story.  I have been wearing it to death this summer, and I am not ready to hang it up until next Spring!  I didn't want to be basic and just grab a cardigan, so I pulled this gingham flannel and layered it.  I love this look!  It also didn't hurt that I inadvertently picked blue and white so I was dressed and ready for my Colts on Monday Night Football last night.  Theylost horribly, so let's pretend this whole thing never happened...

Happy Accidents

This rain jacket was bought accidentally.  What I mean by that was that I was innocently enough shopping for an anniversary card when this bad boy fell off the rack into my basket.  It may or may not have been related to the fact that it was raining outside and I was woefully unprepared for the weather.  After this jacket went and jumped in my basket, I figured the least I could do was take it home with me.  It is the perfect addition to my fall jacket collection!

Black and White

This is one of those dresses that I bought a few years ago and just forgot about.  At the time I bought it because I loved the gentle pleats and basic color palette.  I just never really found the right occasion to wear it, so it lived in my closet with the price tag for nearly two years! After pulling it out today and wearing it to work, I can't believe I let it sit there for so long! When I was a teenager I used to do this all the time much to the dismay of my mother who was buying me all of these unworn clothes!  Have you ever purchased something only to let it sit in your closet for months or even years before wearing it?

Gender Reveal

Those of you who follow along on instagram may already know that my little sister is pregnant with her first baby!  She had a gender reveal party last week, and I was bummed that I couldn't attend.  I got to thinking about what I would wear if I could have gone, and this outfit popped right into my head!  It's a nice mix of pink and blue, so either way I'd be dressed appropriately for the reveal.  It would also be a nice look for a baby shower where the couple haven't revealed the sex yet.

Damage Control

If yesterday's post was all about the white, I'm doing a full 180 for today's look.  Bye bye white, it's time to embrace a moodier hue.  Moody? Nah, more like "foody" aka wearing black to conceal the food baby I got from a delicious homemade dinner for my hubs.  When you're serving smoked paprika chicken in butter sauce with garlic parm orzo you may or may not need seconds.  Seconds = attempting to do damage control in all black.
