Thrifted Wrap Dress

This week I have been making an effort to wear pieces I have picked up at vintage shops or thrift stores.  I love a good thrift pick, and I get excited to tell people "I picked this up at Goodwill for 5 bucks!"  I enjoy spending some alone time sifting through all the junk to pick up something unique. I know some people who hate thrifting, and that is fine but I can't pass up a good deal.  Take this dress-  I snagged it for 5 bucks.  5 bucks!  I took a trip to the Goodwill in the ritzy part of town and found some great stuff.  I get grossed out looking at the used underwear section of the shop though- hard pass.

Today's topknot is brought to you by a late night of wine with the girls and an unfortunate obsession with Gilmore Girls on Netflix.  I'm all #teamdean and waiting for Luke and Lorelei to finally get together.  Long nights translate into getting ready in about 8 minutes flat.  Those Gilmores never wear topknots or slip into blissful pinot comas, so I guess I better start asking myself "WWL(orelei)D"?

Growing up my mom was very clear on the whole anti-"matchy matchy" look.  She always urged to me wear colors that "go together" versus match.  I definitely found myself wondering if coral and blush pink "go" or clash.  Sometimes it's a fine line between an outfit working and failing.  Trusting that I inherited at least some of my mom's fashion sense I went forward with this look.  God knows I didn't inherit her Amazon woman height or her excellent  nose for a deal, but at least I got her fashion sense and her crummy eyesight.  Thanks Mom!

The Suspender Skirt

This suspender skirt is one of the more unique items I own.  I picked it up last Spring at a vintage shop in Columbus, Ohio.  It appears to be handmade and has no tags, so I assume it's one of a kind.  I'm still playing around with how to wear it, as I usually pair it with a black turtleneck.  Perhaps layering it over a chambray button up is in my future because chambray seems to solve all of life's style problems!

Red Hot Rut

Sometimes I feel like I need an outfit like this to break me out of my style rut.  I have been living in flowy midi skirts and my leather jacket lately, so it was time for a shake up.  Since the weather is warming up nicely I pulled this dress out of my closet, but it's not quite warm enough for sleeveless yet.  Habit had me reaching for my faithful jacket, but this checked cape seemed like a bolder bet.  Paired with a red lip and simple black sandals, I am out of my rut!

Lime and Lemon

My arch nemesis (aka my winter coat) is back to taunt me this week.  I had happily packed them away in the back of the closet to forget about for the next nine months, but Mother Nature had other plans.  At least I got a few "oh don't you look Springy" comments when I took a walk around my neighborhood with the color combo.  It may feel like winter, but I am channeling spring vibes with the bright lemon yellow.  But seriously, Mother Nature can go take a flying leap off the Empire State Building for doing this to me!
