Versatile

What's black and white and red all over?  The funniest joke made by 5 year old Kinsey is now the inspiration for today's look.  Every gal should have a black pencil skirt in her closet because it's just so dang versatile and chic.  You can dress it up for a cocktail party, style it with a cardi and fun shoes for work or a tee shirt and sneakers for a casual day.  I am a big fan of the ruffled silk top layered under this polka dot sweater.  Paired with some red suede shoes I am feeling totally feminine and chic!

Cheap Thrills

I have been on a bit of a self-imposed shopping ban recently.  Not for any reason other than to just appreciate what I have (which is a ton of clothes!) and not be so focused on what more I can get.  It's been helpful on my wallet along with my gratitude.  I always get excited about finding new ways to wear what I already have.

So this weekend when I was out shopping with my sister I decided to give in a little and treat myself to some new threads.  My sister is one of those super shoppers that always has a coupon or cash back credit.  She gets it from my mom who is the same way and never meets a sale she doesn't love.  My sis was able to work her magic and help me get these shoes and skirt for a steal.  I like shopping, but I LOVE shopping when I walk away with a skirt that ended up costing less than $5!

Beat the Heat | In Kinsey's Closet's Best Summer Looks

Nothing helps me beat the heat than rocking a summer dress.  See below for some of my favorite summer looks!  I realize that my summer wardrobe is a little one-note as I always reach for a breezy dress.  Sometimes I'll get a little crazy with a skirt and top!

What do you wear to keep cool in the summer?

Sista Sista

What's better than a cute summer maxi?  Getting that summer maxi for less than $20!  I was out shopping with my sister this weekend when we both spied this lovely little thing hanging on the rack.  Both of us loved it, but I was the one who ended up taking it home.  My sister is a new mom and apparently this dress is not new-mom friendly.  It's definitely non-mom friendly so it's the newest addition to my maxi collection!  I was hoping my sister would buy it and we could have twinning moments all summer, but alas she needs something easy peasy for taking care of this little nugget

Heat Stroke

The temperature index had us over 100 degrees in Indiana this weekend.  I didn't dare to wear anything but a simple summer dress.  I basically wanted to do nothing but stay inside and eat popsicles!  But alas, you have to venture outside at least once a day so I pulled out my airiest sundress and popped on some simple pumps and I was good to go!

See how I've styled this dress before here and here!

Unforgettable

Does anyone else have that one piece of clothing that they really like but always seem to forget they have?  For me it's this dress.  I bought it about 5 years ago and just love the pattern and colors.  For some reason I always forget I own this and I get surprised every time I see it squished between other dresses in my closet.  I don't know why, it's a memorable dress but it doesn't live in my mental closet!  Please tell me everyone does something like this and it's not early Alzheimer's setting in!

Check out how I've styled the dress and shoes before!

I Say Hello

I've got some mayjah green on green going on today.  I picked up this top for my trip to Italy in May because I fell in love with the bell sleeves. (Pro tip: Never wear bell sleeves to an Italian cooking class unless you want to drag said sleeves through flour and heaps of pasta sauce.)  You know the fun thing about sleeves like this?  It makes you want to wave at literally everyone you see.  They instantly make you appear friendlier when all you really want to do is flutter the fabric!
