What's Old is New Again

I live in a house built in the 40s, and I'm not sure what people wore back then but I can tell you it probably wasn't much at all because those closets are TI-NEE.  I have had to get creative to make everything fit, even with a huge closet purge prior to moving in three years ago.  One of my solutions was to take everything I wasn't in love with or didn't fit quite right and either donate it or store it in hopes I would fall in love with it again someday.  I got rid of a lot, but hung on to about two large tubs worth of "maybe someday" clothes.

Recently my husband forced me to downsize this storage, so I went through and got rid of some items (remember the days of "going out shirts"?!), but also found a bunch of stuff I forgot I loved!  Enter this dress.  I bought this in Portland back in 2010 and wore it a ton for a few summers.  Now it's back in my closet again!  I love shopping from my old clothes, because it's like "new" free clothes!

Fill 'er Up

Some women have Instagram Husbands.  I do!  BUT.  I also have the BEST Instagram Friends ever.  Friends that will drive into the sketchy parts of town because we all know they have better backdrops.  Friends that will tell you that you arm looks weird or "you're going to hate your hair in that one".  How lucky can one girl get?!

Sentimental Journey

It's been a while since I have pulled this dress out of the closet. Actually, it was in a storage bin in my basement for the past few years.  I just never had the heart to donate it!  It is one of those pieces that has sentimental value (I wore it on a special date with Scot early in our relationship), but wasn't really my style anymore.  I guess my taste comes back around, because when I dug it out last week I couldn't wait to wear it again!  One woman's trash is that same woman's treasure six years later...

We are quickly approaching the time of year that my style takes a nosedive in favor of simple dresses and sandals.  It becomes too sticky and humid to attempt a decent hairdo and any piece of clothing you put on can potentially become stuck to your body once outdoors.   I have to dig deep to find the motivation to snap a few pictures before my face melts off, but I managed to do just that for this look!

This dress is one of my favorites because of the subtle elephant print.  From far away it looks like a geometric pattern, but up close it's adorable!

Date Night

Scot and I are typically homebodies.  You can find us having dinner on the patio while watching the dogs play or hanging on the couch watching a movie most of the time. Once in a while we get the urge for date night, and so this weekend we decided to ditch our neighborhood (where we go out almost exclusively for the convenience) and go out in another part of the city.  We grabbed dinner, hit a winery and listened to some live music.  All in all, a successful date night!

Indiana Town

I think everyone has a certain fondness for the place they grew up.  As a college student I remember not being able to wait until I was out of Indiana.  I felt held back by the conservative values and (to me) backwards beliefs that stand in judgment of others.  I moved to the West coast for a few years, and while I loved my time out there I couldn't wait to come back.  I missed it because I missed my family.  I missed weekends at the lake.  I missed being able to visit my alma mater and see how everything has changed.  I missed a lot, and I am so glad to be back.

When I started this blog in 2010 my style was pretty different.  I was really into pencil skirts and high heels.  I rocked that ladylike look almost every single day!  Over the years my style evolved and became a bit more casual.  However, this look brings me right back to the early days of IKC when almost every look featured a pencil skirt.  This midi skirt is the best and was super cheap a thrift shop from my hometown.  If there is one thing that I love it's a steal of a deal, and that will never change no matter how much my look evolves!
